Getting to the Hobbiton Movie Set from Hamilton is easy enough. Getting there without a coach, a fixed departure time and thirty-nine other people is the harder part.
This is the private version. We collect you from your accommodation or Hamilton Airport, drive you the hour east through Morrinsville and Matamata in a classic car, and wait while you take as long as you like.
What the day includes
The full day tour is $995 with the movie set ticket, hot springs entry and the meal all included. It is a full day rather than a two hour attraction visit.

Private tour or coach tour?
Pick up
Coach: a fixed meeting point at a fixed time. Private: your accommodation door, at a time that suits you.
Who you travel with
Coach: a full bus of strangers. Private: your group only.
Timing
Coach: you leave when the bus leaves. Private: the driver waits.
The rest of the day
Coach: straight back. Private: Okoroire hot springs and a heritage hotel meal on the way home.
The drive
Hamilton to the movie set is roughly 65 kilometres and takes about an hour through Morrinsville and Matamata. It is farmland the whole way with the Kaimai Range on the horizon, and in a convertible with the roof down it is a genuinely good part of the day rather than dead time.
The set itself runs guided walks on timed entries, so we book your slot in advance and time the drive around it.
